       1. I do not know who this gent sumantharaman is.

       2. I do not have a facebook account and am generally least interested in what’s going on there. One reason for this apathy is time, the beastess.

       3. In any case, unless one of my close friends / acquaintances point to some URL (for whatever reason) I avoid going to places.

       4. Last time around when you gave me the URL, it was a dud (as above). So this may be so too.

       5. Though I welcome good bits from around the web, I generally do my homework when I want to pontificate on something; so.

       6. Who are you? Please identify yourself or prove your worth by point to something that you have done. Aren’t we all interested in NOT wasting our time?

       7. Are you a clone of that great Sir Poovannan Ganapathy, or he himself – the long lost friend of mine who keeps giving data and URLs ad nauseam – indulging in data-scientistism? (and pretty much nothing else!)

       சுமந்த் ராமன் என்பவர் தூரதர்ஷனில் பல வருடங்களாக ஒரு பொது அறிவுப்போட்டியை நடத்தி வருபவர். தற்போது தொலைக்காட்சிகளில் அரசியல் விமர்சனங்கள் செய்பவர். பொதுவாக அவர் திராவிடர்களால் பார்ப்பான் என்று தொடர்ந்து வசைபாடப்படுபவர். அதனால் அவர் தேச நலனுக்கு உகந்த கருத்துகளை உடையவர் என்று பெரிதும் நம்ப இடமுண்டு. நவோதயா விஷயத்திலும் நிதானமான தெளிவான திராவிடத்துக்கு எதிரான = பொது நன்மைக்கான நிலைப்பாட்டையே எடுத்துள்ளார்.

   தமிழர்கள் நாசமாக போக மானங்கெட்ட கோழைமணிக்கு என்ன அவ்வளவு ஆசை. கை கால் நல்லா தானே இருக்கு உழைத்து சாப்பிடலாமே. குறைந்தபட்சம் பிச்சையாவது எடுக்கலாமே. திராவிடம் வெங்காயம்னு சொல்லி இறண்டு தலைமுறையை ஒழிச்சானுங்க. இப்போது அடுத்தது தயாராயிட்டு இருக்கு.

   தற்போது இயங்கும் டமில் பள்ளிகளுக்கு ஒரு வகை மாற்றுப் பள்ளியான SAINIK பள்ளி பற்றி அனுபவம் உண்டு.
   என் நெருங்கிய உறவினரின் மகன் அமராவதி SAINIK பள்ளியில் கடந்த வருடம் முடித்து வெளி வந்துள்ளான்.
   8 வருடம் முன்பு அவன் அனுமதித் தேர்வுக்கு தயார் ஆனது முதல், 14 KM தினசரி ஓட்டம் + அவனுடைய பயிற்சி விவரங்கள் குறித்து சொல்லக் கேட்டதுண்டு . +2 வில் 900 சொச்சம் தான் எடுத்தான். வெளி வந்தவுடன் அவன் எதிர் கொண்ட/கொள்ளும் சவால்களையும் கவனித்துக் கொண்டிருக்கிறேன்.
   தற்போது வேளச்சேரியில் உள்ள கலைக் கல்லூரியில் படிக்கிறான். என்ன செய்யப்போகிறான் ? என்ற கவலை எங்கள் அனைவருக்கும் உண்டு.

   2 மாதம் முன்பு அவர்கள் கல்லூரி வளாகத்தில் உள்ள மைதானத்தில் தமிழ்நாடு பிரீமியர் லீக் கிரிக்கெட் தொடக்க நிகழ்ச்சி ஆட்ட பாட்டங்கள் பார்த்து, எப்புடி இருந்த புள்ளய இங்க கொண்டு விட்டுட்டமே கதை எனக்கு.
   டேய்,இதில் எல்லாம் கவனம் சிதறினால் என்னாவது என்று சொல்வதோடு முடித்துக் கொண்டேன்.நான் ஒண்ணும் பங்கெடுக்கல என்று பம்மிக் கொண்டான்.

   எங்கு படித்து வெளி வந்திருப்பினும் சுற்றி நடப்பவையில் இருந்து நம்மை தற்காத்து, மேம்படுத்திக் கொள்வது கடினம் தானே இன்றைய சூழ்நிலையில் ?
   இவ்வகை பள்ளிகளில் இருந்து வெளிவரும் மாணவர்களுக்கான கல்லூரிகள் இங்கில்லையோ என்ற எண்ணம் உருவாகிறது. பொது சமுத்திரத்தில் கலப்பதிலும், மேம்படுவதிலும் சிக்கல்கள் அதிகமோ என்ற எண்ணமும்.

   தங்களின் மேலான கருத்து என்ன?

     Sir, RC – you are correct about my views on NDS. But I got so put off by Sri Veeramani quoting him that – I did not even verify whether Sri Sundaravadivelu said that. But I also said, matrapadi chaandror and all that, yeah?

     I seriously think that, apart from CMI, IMI etc kinda central institutes, the state of TN for higher edu is uniformly pathetic.

       மேலே உள்ள என் பின்னூட்டத்தில் ஒரு தகவல் பிழை. SAINIK பள்ளி CBSE முறை பின்பற்றுவது.ஆனால் என் பதிவில் நான் குறிப்பிட்ட பையனின் தேர்வு முடிவோ தமிழ்நாடு மாநில தேர்வு முறைக்கு மாற்றப்பட்ட வடிவத்தில், சதவீகிததை நினைவில் இருந்து எடுக்க முயற்சித்து அவசர கதியில் மாற்றியதால் வந்த வினை . SAINIK பள்ளி தமிழ்நாடு மாநில பள்ளிக்கல்வித்துறையின் [1200 மதிப்பெண் முறை] கீழ் வருவது போல என் பின்னூட்ட த்வனி வருவதால் இத்திருத்தம். பொறுத்தருள்க.
       என் அட்ச்சுவிடலுக்கு மன்னிக்கவும்..

   திராவிடம் என்பது எப்போதுமே ஆக்கபூர்வமான சிந்தனைகள் செயல்பாடுகளுக்கு எதிரானது. இந்தத் தற்கொலை ஏதோ தியாகம், சமூக நீதிப் போராட்டம் என்றெல்லாம் வர்ணிக்கப்படுகிறது. இதற்கு முன் முத்துக்குமார் தற்கொலை ஒப்பாரிகள், திராவிடப் பொங்கல்கள், மயிர்க்கூச்செறிப்புகள் தவிர என்ன விளைவை ஏற்படுத்திவிட்டது என்று கேட்டால் பார்ப்பான் என்று வசை. தரம் பற்றிப் பேசுவதே பார்ப்பனீயம் என்று முத்திரை (பார்ப்பனீயம்X திராவிடம் திராவிடம்X தரம் அதனால் பார்ப்பனீயம்= தரம் என்பது திராவிட வாய்ப்பாடு. உண்மையில் அவர்கள் எதிர்க்கிற ஒரு விஷயம் தரமானது என்று அவர்களே ஒப்புக்கொள்வதில் (பார்ப்பனீயம் = தரம் என்று பார்ப்பனர்களே கூறாதபோது) உள்ள irony கூட புரியாத அளவு விசித்திரமானது திராவிட மூளை உண்மையிலேயே விசித்திரமானது.
   எங்க பெரியார் பிறந்த மண்ணில் எல்லாரையும் அறிஞ்சர்களாக்கிவிட்டோம் என்று மார்தட்டிக்கொண்டே கிராமப்புற ஏழை மாணவர்கள் இந்தத் தேர்வை எதிர்கொள்ளத் தகுதியானவர்கள் அல்ல என்று சொல்லிக்கொள்கிற அதே நேரத்தில் Social indices இல் முன்னோடியான தமிழகம் என்று பீற்றிக்கொள்கிற அதே வாயால் தேர்வை எதிர்கொள்ள முடியாத அளவு பின் தங்கியவர்களுக்காக ஒப்பாரியும் வைப்பது என்பது திராவிடத்துக்கு மட்டுமே சாத்தியம்.

   FAQ’s on the Navodaya schools issue
   I am not going into the history of these schools here. Facts as they are today are presented. I am not going to sit in judgement. You can suggest what the Tamil Nadu Govt must do when they respond to the High Court within 8 weeks on their stand on setting up such schools in TN.
   1. How many Navodaya schools would be set up in TN if Govt agrees?
   Ans:32 at the rate of 1 per district. However this may take several years. In the near term at least 5-6 can be set up in next couple of years.
   2. Who will fund what?
   Ans:State govt. gives land. Centre sanctions 20 crore for initial construction and infrastructure cost and runs the schools thereafter paying teachers salaries etc. On an average the Central govt..spends Rs.85,000 per student per year. The overall budget of the Centre for these schools each year is around 2000 crore. There are presently around 598 such schools across India.
   3.How many students will benefit in TN each year?
   Ans. Each school has 80 students per class per year. The school has from 6th to 12th Std. So each school will have 560 students from 6th to 12th. That makes a total of 17920 students each year if 32 schools are established In TN. This may not happen so quickly however.
   4. Is education free and is it residential?
   Ans: Navodaya schools offer free residential education. For all students from 6th to 8th Std. education,food,stay,uniforms etc. are all given free. From 9th Std. onwards general category students pay a nominal fee of Rs.200 per month. Students belonging to BPL families, girls and SC/ST students are exempt from this fee.
   5. How will Navodaya schools help rural students?
   Ans: Navodaya schools are established predominantly in rural areas. 75% seats are reserved for rural students. 33% seats are also reserved for girls. Also seats are open only for students from the district where the school is located. SC/ST students will get a minimum of 22.5% reservation. However the reservation for SC/ST students can be higher also depending upon their population in that district. Across India as of 2015-16, over 44% of students in the 598 Navodaya schools are SC/ST students. This is a vitally important statistic as it shows that the scheme is benefiting the weakest sections of society.
   6. How does one get admission?
   Ans. Admission is thru an entrance exam which is conducted in 21 languages including Tamil. There is no need to know Hindi to write this exam or gain admission.
   7. Now the crucial questions. What is the medium of instruction in Navodaya schools?
   Ans. In Tamil Nadu from 6th to 8th it would be Tamil and from 9th onwards it will be English. (if State Govt. agrees to set up these schools)
   8. So is Hindi Not the medium of instruction in these schools?
   Ans. in Hindi speaking states it is. In other states the regional language is the medium from 6th to 8th followed by English. In Tamil Nadu,Tamil will be the medium of instruction from 6th to 8th followed by English from 9th Std.
   9. Is Hindi not compulsory in Navodaya schools?
   Ans. Yes it is. Students learn Hindi as the third language (Tamil is (would be) the first language and English is the 2nd Language) from 6th to 8th standard. However students who fail in any subject are not detained unless they fail the Board exam in 10th Std. So students do not need to pass the Hindi exam.
   10. What happens in Class 9 and 10?
   Ans. in Class 9 and 10, English becomes the medium of instruction and Tamil becomes the second language with Hindi remaining the third language.However students need not write the exam for Hindi in 10th Standard as it is only optional. So if students wish they can opt out of writing the Hindi exam in 10th.
   11. What about 11th and 12th?
   Ans. Here the medium of instruction is English and Tamil is the additional language but the exam in the language is itself optional. Those who wish can write the Tamil exam in 11th and 12th.Others can opt out choosing only the 4 main subjects plus English for the Board exam. In Tamil Nadu thus there would be no Hindi at all in 11th and 12th unless some students opt for it as a language.
   12. How are the Navodaya schools faring? The Govt. stats show them outperforming Govt. CBSE schools and Kendriya Vidyalaya schools by a distance. In NEET 2017 out of 14183 students from Navodaya schools who wrote the NEET exam 11875 qualified (83.72%). 7000 have already joined MBBS this year across India.Mind you these are rural students often from poor families. And they are outperforming CBSE and KV schools.
   13. In addition there is an exchange program where 30% of students in the 9th Std of these schools are sent to another region for a year. In the schools they go to their native language is taught. So Tamil is taught as a language subject in Rewa in MP the link school of the Karaikal JNV school.
   14.But there was a report earlier that said for social studies stream would compulsorily be taught in Hindi from 9th Std.?
   Ans: This too has been clarified and there is no such restriction. From 9th in a state like TN English would be the medium of instruction for all streams.
   Thus while Hindi classes must be attended by students from 6th to 10th there is no compulsion for them to pass any exam in Hindi. in fact they will write exams in Hindi only from 6th to 9th Std. and that too as a language subject. If they fail they will still be promoted. In 10th they can opt out of writing the Hindi exam. In 11th and 12th there would be no Hindi even as a language in TN. (unless a student opts for it)
   We need to decide if this amounts to Hindi imposition and enough reason to deny 17000 plus rural and disadvantaged students in our State each year what is today a high quality education. And that too at the Central Governments cost.

     But there are some big computational goofs in #3 and in #14! He got his math wrong!

     Though I appreciate the basic sincerity& honesty (and angst) in his approach.

     One silly complaint – he could have written this in Tamil, no? :-( But then Poovannan Ganapathis will descend in strength and troll him, oh what to do!

   தனிப்பட்ட முறையில் நான் நண்பர் அனுபவம் மூலம் கேட்டுணர்ந்த வகையில் அடையார் கேன்சர் மருத்துவமனை அவர் சொல்வது போல இருக்க வாய்ப்பில்லை என்றே நினைக்கிறேன். வேலூர் கிருஸ்துவ மருத்துவக்கல்லூரி [சி.எம்.சி] பற்றி அவர் சொல்ல வில்லை எனினும் எனக்கு/என் குடும்பத்துக்கு ஏற்பட்ட அனுபவங்கள் மூலம் அதை மிகத் தரம் வாய்ந்த கல்லூரி மற்றும் மருத்துவமனை என்றே சொல்வேன்.இப்போது வேலூர் நாராயணி மருத்துவமனையும் இவ்வகையில் சேர்த்துக் கொள்ளலாம்.நான் இந்த முறை விடுமுறைக்கு வந்த பொழுது சென்று பார்த்து உணர்ந்தது.சி.எம்.சி யில் போலவே வங்கம்,ஒரிசா முதற்கொண்டு வேறு மாநிலத்தவர் பலர் இங்கு சிகிழ்ச்சை பெறுவதைக் கண்டேன்.

   செங்கல்பட்டு மருத்துவக்கல்லூரியில் பயிலும் என் குடும்பத்து இளைஞி [அவள் வகுப்பு ரேங்க் ஹோல்டரும் கூட], விடுதி பற்றிய குறைகள் தவிர்த்து கல்லூரி பற்றி சிறப்பாகவே சொல்கிறாள்.இந்திய அரசு மருத்துவமனைகளில் கிடைக்கும் அனுபவ விரிவு ஒப்பீட்டு அளவில் அயல்தேசத்தில் படிக்கும் மாணவர்களுக்கு கிடைக்கும் அனுபவத்தை விட அதிகம் இருக்க வாய்ப்பு உண்டெனவே அவள் சொல்லும் கருத்து.

   அவரிடம் சொன்னால் ஏற்றுக் கொள்ள மாட்டார் என்றே உணர்கிறேன்.நீங்களும் அவர் பக்கம் நின்று அடிக்க மட்டை ஓங்க மாட்டீர்கள் என்று நம்புகிறேன்,என் நம்பிக்கை சரிதானே ?
