Lately I have been subjected to some really cruel & terrible ‘Translations in to Tamil’ of otherwise reasonable books in English.
To my misfortune, I have also read those unfortunate, poor books in their sources/originals.
What to do… (+as an adolescent HAM (amateur radio operator) of the last millennium, let me say that I have also used the delightful ‘Charlie Foxtrot’ in radio conversations)
…And, many a Tamil book translated into English is even worse! (save a very few exceptions)
O tempora! O mores!!
Also am reminded of this conversation that I had with a few pals a couple of years ago.
Glad to report that, things haven’t changed much. :-(
The shit has really hit the fanbase of Tamil auteurs. 😩

எதைப் படித்துவிட்டு துன்புற்றுறீர்கள் என்று தெரியவில்லை? பகிர்ந்தால் நான் படிக்காமல் தப்பித்துவிடுவேன் :) . நம் ஆட்கள் “F**k me once..you will be history” என்பதை எப்படி மொழிபெயர்த்தனர் என்பது சில காலம் முன்பு துன்பம் வரும் வேளையில் சிரிக்க உதவியது :)
நிற்க…காந்தி , அம்பேத்கர் பற்றிய கட்டுரைகள் அடங்கிய “The Flaming Feet and Other Essays-D.R. Nagaraj” புத்தகத்தை தமிழில் படிக்க ஆசைப்பட்டு வாங்கி முன்னுரையைப் படித்து பேதி அடைந்த புண்ணியத்தில் இனிமேல் மொழிபெயர்ப்புகளை வாங்குவதாக இல்லை.

What to do, dear Raj Chandra, the offending list is endless, right from nagoor rumi’s translation of rumi to bleddy everything else…
May be there will some solace & renaissance, if we get rid of the current tamil culture altogether and restart.
