எப்படித்தான் தேடித்தேடி இந்த மாதிரி அரைகுறைகளைப் பிடிக்கிறார்களோ இந்த ஊடகப்பேடிகள்!

இந்த அற்பத்தனத்துக்குவேறு பத்துபேர் லைக் போட்டிருக்கிறார்கள். முட்டாக்கூவான்கள்.
கிண்டல், நக்கல் எல்லாம் சரிதான். ஆனால் ஏதோ ஆங்கிலத்தில் மேதாவி போல இப்படித் தப்பும் தவறுமாகக் கீச்சினால்??
ஓ பன்னீர்செல்வம் அவர்களின் ஆங்கிலத்துக்காக நக்கலாக ஆச்சரியப் படும்போது, இப்படி எழுதியிருக்கிறார் சாம்பிராணியார்… இப்படிக் கிண்டல் செய்பவர் OPS’ என எழுதினால் பரவாயில்லை – ஆனால் OPS’s என்று அட்ச்சுவுட்டிருக்கிறார்.
ஒரு ட்விட்டர் கீச்சலைச் சரியாகப் போடத் தெரியவில்லை, ஆனால் முதலையமைச்சர் பற்றிப் பேத்த அவ்வளவு துடிப்பு. மேலும், ஒரு முதலமைச்சருக்கு – அவர் முதலையமைச்சராகவே இருந்தாலும், அவர் பணிபுரிய ஆங்கிலம் தெரிந்திருக்கவேண்டிய அவசியம் இல்லை; ஆனால், ‘த ஹிந்து’ போன்ற ஒரு ஆங்கில தினசரியில் ஒரு நிருபர் (‘ஜர்னலிஸ்ட்’) ஆகப் பணிபுரியும் கடுகுக்குமேகூட அடிப்படை ஆங்கில அறிவு அவசியம். இந்தக் கடுகு அப்படித்தான் தன்னை விளித்துக்கொள்கிறது:

பின்குறிப்பு: ஒரு ட்விட்டர் கீச்சலைத் தவறில்லாமல் மேலாண்மை செய்ய வக்கில்லை – ஆனால் ட்ரம்ப் பற்றிக் கிண்டல் செய்யமுடிகிறது இந்த அரைகுறைக்கு. இம்மாதிரி மகாமேதாவி இளைஞர்கள்(!) ஊடகங்களில் உட்கார்ந்துகொண்டு கர்த்துகளை அட்ச்சுவுடுவது உண்மையிலேயே சோகமான விஷயம். :-(

I just read the latest Othisaivu re apostrophe. I used to put the apostrophe after the S but i saw at various places in London, the apostrophe is used after the s, eg. St. James’s Square and then i changed. I am now confused. I checked the Oxford Dictionaries and this is what i see. I am not sure what is right or if both are allowed. Can you pls let me know.
Personal names that end in –s
With personal names that end in -s: add an apostrophe plus s when you would naturallypronounce an extra s if you said the word out loud:
He joined Charles’s army in 1642.
Dickens’s novels provide a wonderful insight into Victorian England.
Thomas’s brother was injured in the accident.
Note that there are some exceptions to this rule, especially in names of places or organizations, for example:
St Thomas’ Hospital
If you aren’t sure about how to spell a name, look it up in an official place such as the organization’s website.
With personal names that end in -s but are not spoken with an extra s: just add an apostrophe after the -s:
The court dismissed Bridges’ appeal.
Connors’ finest performance was in 1991.

Dear chum, I did speak to an angrezi professor (a clueful one at that!) BEFORE posting the blog; he also told me that there is a lot of confusion even(!) within the ‘native’ angrezi colonialists. He said if the name is abbreviated and hence becomes OPS kinda scenario for O Panneer Selvam – we should just add an apostrophe after the OPS – that is, OPS’ and NOT OPS’s.
He also suggested that instead of this mode – one could have non-controversially and therefore brainlessly written ‘quite impressed with the english of OPS at India Today conclave.’
My point is that, these adolescents should check and double check, before launching into sarcasm – esp when TheHindu goons habitually take pride in their stupid english. Useless buggers, what else.
Thanks though, for the cross checking and stuff. I would love to be corrected anyway, whenever I commit mistakes or errors of judgement.
