Apparently, Sri Vedachalam AKA ‘Maraimalai Adigal’ lambasted EVR ‘Periyar,’ his friends & Self Respect Movement in ~July 1928.
MA seems to have said,
“How can one with pure Saivaite blood, not kill these people?”

(… it is good to know that, Sri Vedachalam did not refute what he had apparently said (in any case, within the timeframe demanded by KudiArasu) – and then, the ‘differences’ & associated polemics got lost in the swirling mists of time…
…am also glad to report that now, our good ol’ Maraimalai Adigal is even part of the #DravidianModel & Tamil exceptionalist/supremacist discourse, wherein EVR is THE monotheistic god!)
