If you are in love with FPGA stuff, and need an avant-garde tech job – read on…

September 3, 2024

A relatively small but a fascinating start-up (operating in the realm of developing quantum ideas based security ‘box’ products & eventually product-lines) with its own start-uppy complexities that I am sorta supporting, needs (at least) one individual with the following exposures & capabilities. (am reproducing the job-description verbatim/as-is-where-is – and ISTR that at least 2 readers of the blog were working ‘roughly’ in the same area, though I do not seem to have their email ids or other ways of communicating with them; so, hint hint)

Electronics Engineer – FPGA expert

Qualifications/skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field with a minimum 7.0 CGPA or equivalent grade
  • 5+ years of experience in HDL coding and FPGA board handling
  • Proficiency in FPGA design tools such as Xilinx, Vivado or Altera Quartus
  • Experience in debugging, testing, and troubleshooting FPGA-based systems
  • Experience with high-speed interfaces such as PCIe, Ethernet and DDR
  • Experience with embedded processors and SoCs
  • Familiarity with digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms is a plus
  • Having verification skills such as UVM, SV is a plus
  • Programming skills – preferred language C/C++
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good knowledge of Systems-on-Chip such as Xilinx, Kintex, or Lattice-Crosslink, as well as Xilinx, Vivado or similar

Job Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement and verify FPGA-based solutions for our company’s products
  • Write and maintain HDL code for FPGA devices
  • Perform FPGA board handling, including debugging, testing, and troubleshooting
  • Work with hardware and software teams to integrate FPGA-based solutions into larger systems
  • Collaborate with other engineers and stakeholders to ensure project success
  • Preparation of technical documents describing the developed systems
  • Technically prepare and present themselves for project related activities

(the above listing needs some editing etc – but there it is, warts and all; hope you get the drift…)

I can promise a few things: The job is really advanced, involves research, deals with product development etc etc and the experience one gains in the firm, can be put to great use and leveraged for a nice & satisfying growth – along many axes.

’nuff said.

I know for a fact that the expected experience and all (by the young founders) are somewhat unrealistic given the Indian scenario; moreover, within a short industry experience of circa 5 years – it is difficult to know/understand much unless one has an IQ of way beyond 130 and is diligent; of course, the requirement is not merely for javascript libs/dev-ops/full-stack-developer kinda illustrious bloatage.

I personally do not care about CGPA, years of experience etc – as long as the applicant is WYSIWYG and knows what he/she/it is talking about – coupled with a demonstrated willingness to learn & SLOG like crazy.

(tl;dr: so there is enough flexibility, when warranted)

So, if you feel that you fit the bill & you can contribute – of course you can be a part of an exciting, rewarding journey (if not here, elsewhere) – or OTOH, cyclical exiting journey, (kidding)

If you so desire to be a part – you need to forward your ONE page (max) resume to othisaivuDOTramasamiATgmailDOTcom; no tricks; with 12 point font, single space, A4.

(if any of you know some lad/lady who may be interested, please ask them to approach me)

Postscript: As and when the position/opening closes, I will post a comment to that effect.

Thanks!

With the age of LLM’s (AI), all we should be looking for is just this skill.
“Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail”

With couple of experience folks prepare an LLM driven team.. (invest 20% of time/money here)

English (and soon other regional languages) is the new Programming Language.

(but, if you are interested and assumption-about-self is set to ‘yes’ – please do respond – there are always requirements in this growth phase)
