The ONLY book one needs, to understand the basics (AND advanced ideas) vis-a-vis computing & computers. Bumped into it in 1987 or thereabouts; haven’t seen anything like it since then. Seriously.

SICP FTW.

Inspired by the sheer beauty of the book, I even managed to conceptualize and deliver a course for adolescents in 2009 or so, in a Montessori school setting: structure and interpretation of children’s toys.

But then, now I find that in a subsequent ‘accident,’ the post giving a gist of the effort too, had been deleted; however, it is there (unluckily for you) elsewhere, as it has apparently been archived! – structure and interpretation of children’s toys

The above tome has a fantabulous ‘infinitely deep zen’ about the EOPL. Fascinating.

(am yet to seriously checkout the above Javascript version of SICP (save a cursory glance, just bumped into this version a month ago or so) – but, then…)
